Position Summary
This position will support geospatial data editing, quality control and documentation maintenance to remap rivers, lakes and streams hydrography in two Wisconsin counties. Tasks will include processing digital elevation models to derive stream networks using tools such as Arc Hydro; transferring attributes from the DNR’s existing 24k Hydro data and performing quality control checks. This work will involve researching and testing new technical process to improve efficiency. In addition, the position will work with DNR staff and other stakeholders to define and document new requirements for hydrography mapping.
Responsibilities
70% – Perform GIS data editing using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro tools for hydrographic (lakes, rivers, streams) feature mapping. This work will include digital elevation model (DEM) processing to derive stream networks using Arc Hydro and other tools. In addition, the duties will include database management, quality control and process automation using Python scripting
20% – Gather and document requirements for hydrographic feature mapping from DNR staff and other stakeholders. Facilitate stakeholder meetings
10% – Maintain process documentation and other reference guides
Required Qualifications
1) Experience using ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro for GIS vector data editing.
2) Experience performing GIS geoprocessing, topology checks and attribute quality control.
3) Experience documenting GIS technical procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Python scripting or other coding experience to automate processes.
2) Experience working with diverse project stakeholders to define requirements.
3) Ability to research and refine new GIS technical methods.
4) Database or attribute management experience.
5) Image processing experience
