The GIS Specialist I is responsible for correcting, researching, and assigning addresses; maintenance of the MSAG (Master Service Area Guide) for the E-911 mapping system; coordination of address data between the local municipalities, tax database and Sheriff’s Department; cooperation between County departments (Land Information, IT and Sheriff) and vendors used within the Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center and mobile mapping technologies; assist in the development and support of the County’s Geographic/Land Information System (GIS/LIS) and to advance the goals of the County’s Land Information Plan. All duties and responsibilities are performed under and subject to the review and guidance of GIS Administrator/Land Information Officer and the Land Information Committee.

Essential Skills

• Knowledge of GIS with emphasis on land information, data conversion, and supported databases.
• Knowledge and experience with modeling/scripting.
• Knowledge and ability to use computer hardware and software related to GIS, included GPS data collection
and transfer to GIS software products; Microsoft Office and Access.
• Ability to analyze land information documents and data, and to advise others on the use of the County’s GIS
web-based systems and data.
• Basic knowledge of integration of standard operating systems and mapping software.
• Ability to provide technical training to others concerning operational changes and new data.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret a variety of documents, including aerial photographs, field data, general
business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, other departments, GIS users and
other support staff.
• Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to apply concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal
with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Preferred: Knowledge and ability to use computer hardware and software related to database management,
general cartographic processes and map production, as well as Emergency Services Response and Dispatch,
including but not limited to Spillman supported applications and Intrado.
• Knowledge of current operating system environments as well as familiarity with computer networking.
