Nationally recognized for our aerial mapping, land surveying, and GIS services, Ayres has served as an important fixture in the geospatial industry for nearly 70 years. The Aerial Mapping group has recently experienced significant growth, expanding its staff by nearly 50% in the past three years and adding staff in five new locations across three states. We’re seeking a manager to lead this group and build on these successes into the future.

Ayres’ Aerial Mapping group, part of the Geospatial division, consists of 27 people and serves clients in local government, departments of transportation, utilities, telecom, and a wide range of private consulting firms across the nation. This role will require that the manager balances time and group resources toward maintaining service excellence to existing clients with expansion of services and geographic reach to new markets. The manager will also work collaboratively with 2 group manager peers and the vice president to help develop and execute the division’s strategic goals and work across service lines to advance company goals.

On any given day, you’ll:

  • Motivate the team to meet the goals and objectives of the annual business plan and budget, including revenue and profitability goals, workload backlog, billing, accounts receivable management, and image development.
  • Assign responsibilities and priorities for the project management team.
  • Be an active participant in division meetings held with the supervising vice president and fellow group managers.
  • Supervise the activities of all project managers and service group supervisors.
  • Provide for and guide staff development.
  • Oversee the technical production of all project work, ensuring that the work is produced on schedule, profitably, and in conformance with quality standards of the firm and the requirements of the contract.
  • Act as the company representative and spokesperson in the community, as well as being active in civic and professional organizations.
  • Conduct business development, including client contact, marketing, and monitoring client satisfaction.
  • Work with business development specialists to identify opportunities and craft strategies for pursuit of new clients and markets.
  • Understand and support corporate policies and procedures.
  • Prepare contract documents, including scope of work, project schedule, and fee estimates and review and approve those prepared by group project managers.
  • Prepare and oversee quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Actively seek collaboration with other services around the company.
  • Participate in office-wide social events.
  • Develop the long-range strategic plan, marketing plan, and the annual business plan for the group with particular emphasis on the annual financial plan, capital purchase, budget, marketing, and training plan sections.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e., GIS, photogrammetry, remote sensing, cartography, survey).
  • 12+ years of experience in geospatial industry or related field.
  • Prior experience supervising staff, managing projects, developing new and maintaining existing clients.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
