Eau Claire County’s Planning and Development Department is recruiting for a Surveyor. This position performs supervisory and surveying duties to achieve the objectives of the project survey team, directs field operations as a survey crew chief, assists in administrative duties as assigned, performs and directs a variety of technical survey-related duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Illustrative only)

  • Directs field operations as a survey crew chief
  • Oversees seasonal survey technician as needed
  • Oversees the monument maintenance system through which the public land survey system corners are checked, re-established, and perpetuated each year
  • Performs complex horizontal and vertical control networks and adjustments
  • Performs record research and title searches on parcels of land as needed or directed
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a coordinate system to be used in base mapping for the geographic information systems
  • Assists other County departments (e.g. Highway, Parks and Forest, Airport, Purchasing) in any required land survey duties as directed
  • Witnesses survey monuments prior to and following any road repair and/or reconstruction with  replacement of damaged monuments and witness ties, and prepares supplemental documentation
  • Prepares detailed reports covering progress and outcome of assigned projects
  • Directs indexing and filing of survey maps
  • Prepares manual and CAD drawings as needed and directed
  • Provides survey information to surveyors and the public
  • Performs other related surveying, mapping, or cartography duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s Degree with specific coursework in surveying or four years work experience in surveying
  • Experience in the re-establishment, maintenance, and perpetuation of the Public Land Survey System
  • Two (2) years previous experience in the re-establishment, maintenance, and perpetuation of the Public Land Survey System.
  • Experience using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) and least squares adjustment computer programs

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Must have access to private transportation for work-related duties
