GIS Developer or GIS Technician Interns

State Cartographer's Office

This is an EXPIRED job listing. Do not apply for this position!

Location: Madison, WI
Type: Internship
Posted: 01/05/2022
Deadline to Apply: Open - no deadline given by employer
Payrate: $14.00/hour

We are currently recruiting to fill multiple roles!  If you want to get more experience with GIS data processing and development, we will have you help out with projects like the statewide parcel map initiative using tools including ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro, PostgreSQL, Python, and more.  Are Web apps your more your thing?  We always need people that can help us create and maintain a wide range of online apps using JavaScript, Leaflet, and other Web technologies.

Successful candidates typically have some level of experience in one or more of these areas, but we don’t expect you to know it all. Most of our students start out knowing the basics, and we give them room to grow their expertise. Your specific role (GIS developer or GIS tech) will depend upon previous experience and your future career goals.

Note: these positions start in January 2022, and will continue into the summer and beyond.  There is no time limit on the positions, but you must be enrolled as a student to remain eligible.

WHAT WE EXPECT

We expect our students to work 10-15 hours per week. In return, we offer a very flexible schedule that can work around your class schedule, and yes, those occasional all-nighters.  More hours are possible during the summer.

We expect you to be an active learner. Period. We know you haven’t had a “real” job yet, so we get the fact that you need time to learn. We expect this… but we also expect you to take that responsibility seriously.

Remote work is an option we will consider for talented students located outside Madison.  However, due to UW-Madison’s evolving remote work policy, we are unable to offer remote work to students residing outside the state at this time. Our starting pay is $14.00 per hour.

You MUST be a student enrolled at any college or university in Wisconsin. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional/certificate students in any discipline are encouraged to apply!  Interested?  Please fill out our online employment application.  Contact Jim Lacy if you have any questions.
