Position Summary
This position serves as an Urban and Regional Planner – Advanced for the Department of Transportation Bureau of Planning and Economic Development and leads complex planning tasks by conducting statewide planning activities and developing components of multimodal transportation system plans. Specific plans and analyses are the result of Federal or State legislative requirements or in response to current transportation issues or problems. This position includes responsibilities related to:
• Statewide system plan development
• Policy analysis
• Quantitative analysis
• Regulatory compliance
• Program evaluation
• Impact assessment
• Technical reading, writing, and editing
• Summarizing technical and complex topics
• Fostering cooperative relationships and consensus building
This position works as a key member of a multi-divisional team to apply policy analysis, program evaluation, planning skills, environmental principles, economic development principles, impact assessment, social science research, and fiscal analysis to recommendations affecting the development of multimodal transportation plans. This position plays a key role in analysis of a broad range of complex and major transportation issues, including but not limited to:
• Relationships and competing needs between transportation modes
• Environmental and land use impacts
• Freight mobility needs and impacts
• Fiscal constraints
• Connected, automated, and alternatively fueled vehicles
• Other transportation issues
Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:
• With planning and policy issues, including but not limited to socio-economic, environmental, land use, and transportation impacts policy
• Communicating technical information to a non-technical audience
• With policy analysis and program development
• Collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders including external and internal parties
• Writing, summarizing, and editing technical documents (such as long-range planning documents, technical reports, police summaries, etc.)
