This position is responsible for coordinating and managing GIS (geospatial information system) and Asset Management (AM) projects, systems, services including: work direction responsibilities for GIS staff and paid GIS interns; enterprise system (GIS and AM) site configuration, customization, maintenance and management; asset management workflow design and configuration; contributes to annual budget development; designs, and supports mobile solutions for data collection and viewing in the field; data analysis;, database management; design and layout of complex maps, charts and graphs; design and generation of reports and spreadsheets
Duties/Responsibilities
- Plan, assign, direct, and review the work of technical personnel involved in the design, development, and implementation of GIS and AM application programs or databases.
- Develop and implement the city’s Strategic GIS and Asset Management Plan(s)
- Responsible for administration, maintenance, customization, and upgrades to the city’s GIS and asset management systems and databases. (ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS and Cityworks Server)
- Analyzes and assists in the development, creation, and maintenance of geographic and attribute databases. Manage and manipulate geographic data and related attributes for use in appropriate applications
- Documents, designs, develops, and supports workflows and processes to be implemented in the city’s asset management software
- Generates advanced queries and reports utilizing asset management system data and provides accurate and timely information for the operation, maintenance, and capital improvement of the city’s infrastructure
- Responsible for administration of the city’s ArcGIS Online account used to design, test, implement, and support mobile applications for data collection and viewing
- Handle several projects and tasks as directed
- Performs other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as apparent or assigned.
- Directly provides work direction to one (1) Geographical Information Systems Specialist
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited university or college with a bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Geography, Computer Science, Land Surveying or related field
- Three years or more of related and progressive work experience in GIS
- Valid MN Driver’s license
- Able to communicate in an oral and written form
- Preferred Education && Experience (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
- 5 or more years work experience using ArcGIS products (Desktop, Enterprise, ArcSDE, & ArcGIS Online)
- 3 or more years work experience organizing and manipulating database products such as SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL or similar
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a GIS related field
