The Technical Support Specialist – GIS represents a variety of positions of similar responsibility level engaged in providing installation, configuration, maintenance, and technical support for Dunn County’s Information Technology Systems. More specifically, within the Land Information section of the Information Technology Division.

The Technical Support Specialist – GIS is more responsible for the daily operational troubleshooting of IT & GIS systems, equipment, performing help desk and user support functions, implementing backup and security protocols, and serving as a team member on special projects, as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assists the Land Information Officer within maintenance and development of various GIS datasets and metadata; involving editing, updating and maintaining data into specific formats and schemas.
  • Develops and maintain GIS tools, workflows, applications and metadata.
  • Performs geospatial data development and administration.
  • Assists the Land Information Section with E911 and rural addressing duties.
  • Provides technical and troubleshooting support to departments as it relates to GIS, land information, and the land records management system
  • Maintains and analyzes data within the land record management system.
  • Assists the Real Property Lister with researching and resolving of issues with problem and unidentified tax parcels, including land splits, ownership transfers and other related land records duties as needed.
  • Assists County Departments with technical support and troubleshooting GIS related issues.
  • Provides information and assistance to the public, municipalities, and county staff regarding Dunn County land records and public GIS mapping tools
  • Assists in the development and advancement of the Dunn County Land Records Modernization Plan
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s Degree in GIS/automated mapping, geography, cartography, or other related field.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years previous GIS, networking or directly related experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS/automated mapping, geography, cartography, or other related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or query language
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to travel between work locations.

  • English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.

MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
