Kaukauna Utilities is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Operational Technology Specialist. This is a full time, non-exempt position that will function under the direction of the Manager of Operational & Information Technology.

This is a skilled position that will work in the Operational Technology Department and will utilize aspects of Kaukauna Utilities’ operational technologies to support the water and electric departments.

These systems include Geographic Information System (GIS), System Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), Outage Management System (OMS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), and other systems as applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will maintain and provide support for these operational technologies to provide information to the system operations center, field crews, and management staff.

Responsible for maintaining and updating system maps, drawings, and other records including the utility’s GIS. Work with all employees and follow all proper procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Work involves the use of drafting knowledge and skills in drawing electric and water distribution design plans and maps with computers and automated drafting tools.

Skilled work in drawing electric and water distribution design plans and maps with computers and automated drafting tools. Maintain construction standards in the utility design software to ensure accurate designs are produced by staff.

Maintain the utility’s SCADA and OMS systems and their integrations to GIS.

Develop and maintain mobile applications utilizing ESRI tools to enhance field data collection.

Occasional travel is required for training purposes.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in civil, electrical engineering technology, Information Technology, or GIS with experience in operational technologies.

Two to four years utility experience with SCADA, GIS, and CAD systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of computer and control systems, especially those used in the electric distribution, transmission, generation, and water distribution systems.

Working knowledge of computers in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Access, and SQL databases.

Ability to read, write, and understand technical drawings and prints.

Ability to work from sketches and field mark-ups.

Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of the general operation of the utility.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other KU departments, contractors, city representatives, and customers.

Ability to work independently and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to adapt to changes in the industry and technology that affect work methods.

Must maintain a current State of Wisconsin Driver’s License.
