Waushara County is currently accepting applications for a Land Information (GIS Analyst) Intern. This is a seasonal/limited-term position responsible for assisting the GIS Coordinator in the development and maintenance of County Wide GIS spatial data sets. Project work will cover multiple areas of interest including: map development, geodatabase design/creation, historical investigation of parcels and associated deeds, GPS data development workflow, and metadata production.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. While utilizing ESRI’ssoftware, this intern will design, develop, maintain, attribute, and create GIS data sets and maps.
  2. Core layers that may be utilized in process include: roads, trails, hydrology, parcels, zoning, address points, annotation, aerial photography, certified survey maps, PLSS, and municipal boundaries.
  3. Having the ability to read legal descriptions would also be very beneficial when working with Deeds related to Parcel mapping.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING ELEMENTS

Education, Training and Experience

  1. Pursuing at least an associate degree in Geography, Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  2. Course work that would be of most benefit would include:
  3. Introductory GIS
  4. Advanced GIS
  5. Map Development and Composition
  6. Cartographic Design
  7. Aerial Photography Interpretation or Remote Sensing
  8. GIS Database Design and Development
  9. High school graduate, or equivalent

Knowledge, Ability and Skills

  1. A basic understanding of the multitude of data types related to County land information and a general literacy of the software used to maintain and manipulate this data for analysis purposes.
  2. Conceptual understanding of the Public Land Information System.
  3. Having the ability to read legal descriptions would also be very beneficial when working with Deeds related to Parcel mapping.
  4. Exceptional attention to detail.
  5. Solid team skills as well as the ability to work independently.
  6. Professionalism and confident communications skills will allow you to work with multiple departments as it relates to Land Information.
  7. Must possess and maintain a valid non probationary Wisconsin’s driver’s license.

Responsibility and Authority

Position reports to the GIS Coordinator.

Working Conditions

Office work environment. Sitting, standing, bending, working with computers. Preferably Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule can be flexible depending upon student’s school schedule. Maximum 480 hours.
