We are seeking 3 highly motivated individuals to join our team in furthering our research in the geospatial realm. We seek 3 individuals to help provide technical and analytical guidance for spatial analyses and research. Additionally, these individuals will create maps and other data visualizations in support of various projects currently being conducted at the Center for Health Disparities Research. These specialists will join a dynamic team that works on multi-unit projects, both internal and external to the UW-Madison. These projects range from the optimization of geospatial tools in an Azure cloud platform, the creation of visualizations of data that will be used in publications and shared with other institutions that are currently in a 22-site consortium, and working with data analysts and IT professionals in moving research in health disparities forward.

The Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) focuses on understanding and eliminating health disparities and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations. We conduct multidisciplinary projects in clinical/health systems interventions, medical and public records assessment, and claims data analysis. This study leverages data within 22 Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers across the US to conduct the largest study of its kind on social determinants of health in the context of AD. This study develops a novel collaborative infrastructure of contextual exposure for future social-biological phenotypic evaluation – a potential pathway to new therapeutics directly responsive to the NIA mission.

Under the guidance of the direction of the CHDR Data Science Leader, the 3 successful GIS specialists will collaborate with both internal and external investigators on the incorporation of geographically-based measures in their research projects. The successful candidates will assist the CHDR scientific team with the expansion of geographically-based metrics and tools for research. Finally, the GIS specialists will assist with the development and validation of geographically-linked metrics of socioeconomic factors related to healthcare disparities and outcomes.

The CHDR Neighborhood Atlas https://www.neighborhoodatlas.medicine.wisc.edu/ is used to demonstrate how geographic information science furthers interventions and study focused on the social determinants of health. These successful candidates support the Atlas team.
