Overview

MSA has an opportunity for a GIS Technician at any of our Iowa office locations (Bettendorf, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, or Dubuque). This is a full-time, hourly position and you will have the opportunity to see, and contribute in, projects from start to finish. The various projects you’ll be working on make a significant and positive impact on the communities you serve.

Our GIS professionals work alongside our engineers, environmental scientists, funding experts, urban planners and surveyors to provide a full suite of professional services to our clients. From bike trails and interstate highways to drinking water and wastewater, we have supported municipal and private projects from start to finish since the 1930s.

Responsibilities

The work you will do

  • Provide a wide variety of GIS solutions from asset management, utility mapping, web-based GIS solutions for mobile devices and office
  • Provide GIS services to both internal staff and external clients
  • Present GIS project requirements, solutions, and scope details
  • Develop and implement GIS project solutions in a team setting
  • Collaborate with other GIS professionals innovating new applications of GIS
  • Create engineering, planning, and analysis exhibits working with local, county, and client data in web and desktop environments
  • Serve as internal liaison for use of a variety of Trimble GPS equipment
  • Support local team leaders and engineers with daily data conversion and mapping needs

Qualifications

What you bring
Skills & Knowledge / Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • A valid driver’s license required
  • Minimally the candidate should have a good understanding of basic GIS data development principles including coordinate systems, map projections, database schemas, and map production
  • Prior experience with ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS Pro software recommended
  • Prior experience with ArcGIS Online, mobile solutions, apps and web GIS technologies recommended
  • Prior experience with Trimble GPS equipment preferred
  • Candidates with any developer experience in python and/or arcade languages are encouraged to apply
  • Candidates with prior municipal consulting and project management experience are encouraged to apply
