SUMMARY OF JOB

The purpose of this LTE (limited term employment) position is to assist the Planning and Public Works Departments by researching, creating GIS data sets and map amendments.

This is a limited term intern position which will be no greater than 1039 hours per year. The schedule is flexible with approximately 15 hours – Monday through Friday. During school breaks hours may be increased. The projected starting date for the position is November 4th.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Duties and Responsibilities – The following duties are the primary duties of this position but do not compose an exclusive or all-encompassing list of duties. Other duties may be assigned or required to accomplish the main goals of this position.

  • Create and assist with GIS projects
  • Perform digitizing and attribute entry of GIS data layers using various sources.
  • Perform data quality control check and topology
  • Organize existing data and tie to maps

QUALIFICATIONS

The ability to perform the Core Duties and Additional Duties listed above and:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • High school graduate
  • Actively enrolled in college pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Geography, GIS, Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban studies or related studies or programs.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Language Skills

  • Ability to comprehend and interpret zoning, and other City codes and ordinances, zoning maps, etc.
  • Proficient with Global Information System (GIS)
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percent’s, and make use of the principles of basic algebra and geometry.

Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to use functional reasoning and apply rational judgment in performing diversified work activities.

Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Position Functions

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Environmental Adaptability

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods.
