The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is actively recruiting to hire a GIS Data Specialist (IS Systems Data Services Specialist) to work in a fast-paced environment supporting and leading complex GIS strategies for sharing and deploying GIS data for our core GIS Unit.  The GIS Unit supports the enterprise GIS deployments and staff throughout the Department.  We take an innovative and engaging approach working side-by-side with our customers using emerging technologies.

Position Summary

This position provides advanced technical leadership and system support as a GIS Data Specialist for the GIS Unit that serves the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). This position will support WisDOT’s diverse GIS staff and helps promote the use of distributed GIS data concepts, methodologies, and policies.

As a GIS Data Specialist, you will be responsible for providing expertise in GIS data for disparate distributed GIS facilities that involve multiple software platforms, development environments, and architectures in areas such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS desktop, and enterprise geodatabases. You will provide technical support for agency GIS data repositories, workflows, and extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes, and aid in the development, implementation, testing, and administration of agency enterprise geodatabases and ArcGIS Enterprise and cloud ArcGIS Online data stores. This position will also promote the policies and standards related to the use and governance of agency geodatabases, GIS data, metadata and provide technical support to end-users for agency GIS data procedures and data sharing strategies.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates must detail having experience in *all* of the following in order to be considered in the next step of the process:

  • Developing and implementing GIS data strategies
  • Working with GIS related change management and data governance
  • Providing geodatabase support for Esri ArcGIS related platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise and Esri enterprise geodatabases or local geodatabases)

In addition to detailing how you meet all of the above criteria, a well-qualified applicant will also detail having experience in at least one of the following:

  • Designing and implementing GIS data in a relational database management system (RDBMS) (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Utilizing advanced desktop or server software (e.g., ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Pro, FME, Python, SQL Developer)
