ORGANIZATION
: The Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SWWRPC) is an area-wide planning and
development agency. Commission offices are located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The organization is
responsible for administering over one hundred comprehensive plans in Southwestern Wisconsin, specifically in the counties of Grant,
Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Richland. The commission is staffed by highly educated, team-oriented persons with diverse professional
backgrounds. Since the organization’s conception over thirty years ago, numerous young professionals have participated in
SWWRPC’s internship program and on to achieve success in their desired fields.

DESCRIPTION
: Responsible for supporting a range of planning activities in a regional planning commission including
assisting local governments in developing comprehensive plans for cities, villages, towns and counties; creating or modifying
development codes and ordinances; participating in a team effort to create and update region-wide development plans and technical
studies; preparing census data, statistics, maps and other implementation tools.

QUALIFICATIONS
: Qualified applicants must posses, or verify progress toward, a Masters and/or Bachelors degree in urban
and/or regional planning. Only candidates with a demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, strong research and
statistical analysis and independent work habits will be considered. More specifically, applicants must have knowledge of
• Comprehensive Planning process and requirements;
• U.S. Census Bureau’s website and literature;
• GIS programs;
• Land Use regulations, especially zoning and subdivision codes;
• Computer programs including Adobe, Word, and Excel.

AVAILABILITY
: Interns should be available during the summer months to work an average of 40 hours per week.

: SWWRPC offers a competitive salary.
