This is a 50% position. The position would be under the supervision of the Natural Heritage Inventory (NHI) Section Chief and report to the Environmental Review Team. 35% Prepares background data and information on rare species and natural communities for use in evaluating impacts of proposed development projects, using the Natural Heritage Inventory information system and other sources. 25% Manages the endangered resources project review log and blanket agreements and evaluates impacts for less complex projects under the mentorship of an environmental review specialist. 20% Assists with NHI Training including scheduling, logistical support, preparation of materials and attendee tracking. 10% Compiles species management and screening guidance and information for the Bureau of Endangered Resources web-based data Portal. 10% Organization and maintenance of program files.
Knowledge Required:
1. General knowledge of Wisconsin’s biological communities and principles of ecology and rare species conservation. College degree or equivalent experience in conservation biology, ecology, land-use planning, environmental studies, natural resource management or related field. 2. Knowledge and/or experience with environmental impact review and assessment, Wisconsin Endangered Species Law, Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA) and associated environmental regulatory procedures desired. 3. Strong organizational, planning, coordination, and administrative skills, including ability to effectively organize multiple projects, maintain files, and follow through on details. 4. Strong oral and written communication skills including ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and to effectively coordinate within teams. 5. Experience with Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel; experience with ArcView/ArcMap programs preferred.
