Type: Limited Term

Deadline to Apply: 04/15/2006

Description: This limited-term, hourly position involves managing and combining two datasets for the purpose of creating an improved and expanded dataset for a regression model. This ongoing project, with Prof. Thomas Mitchell (UW Law School) and Prof. Steve Malpezzi (Chair, Dept. of Real Estate and Urban Land Economics) as principal investigators, is looking at racial disparity in North Carolina farmland sales prices over the last 70 years. Our study area is the acreage originally designated as the Roanoke Farms Resettlement Project, located in Halifax County, NC. Through extensive research of farmland sales transactions since the inception of this New Deal poverty assistance program in the 1930s, we have produced some interesting results, and this type of empirical research is an innovative tool in the law field. Our goal now is to link this data with a spatial GIS tax layer of current property owners in order to value structures on these properties.

Term: Immediately to end of Spring 06 Semester, with a possibility of a Project Assistantship in the fall semester.
Pay: Hourly, $12-15 depending on experience
Hours: 10-15 per week

Skills: We are looking for a motivated and organized individual with an ability to understand and organize varied types of data. Applicants should have some experience with Microsoft Access and Excel and ArcGIS 8.x or later. Extensive knowledge of these applications is not necessary for this hourly position, and the person hired for this project will be trained depending on needs. Applicants should have some knowledge of regression analysis techniques and relational databases. An understanding and ability to read maps is preferred.

Applying: Applications for this position will be accepted until the position is filled. We are interested in hiring someone immediately. To apply for this position, send a cover letter and current résumé in PDF or MS Word format (no calls, please) to:
