The applicant must have graduate level training in social statistics and data analysis with emphasis on the methods and techniques of spatial data analysis. The applicant should also have experience with ArcView GIS software and in particular the application of GIS in the visualization and analysis of U.S. census data using the Census Bureau’s TIGER digital map.
Principal duties:
- Provide analysis of social science data, in particular U.S. Census data and other large demographic data sets. Provide information to other Applied Population Lab (APL) staff in the areas of data analysis and visualization using ArcView GIS and other GIS tools.
- Work on long term projects within the APL requiring data acquisition, data analysis, and data presentation. Provide data, analytical and outreach support to faculty, staff and students in the APL as well as clientele of the APL.
- Assist in authoring, editing and compiling of manuscripts and reports including primary responsibility for a quarterly newsletter. Serve as a resource for training and support of CAR (Concentration in Analysis and Research) interns in the APL.
- Provide support as needed to the Geographic Information and Analysis Core activities within the APL including: consultation on spatial statistics and analysis techniques; support for training sessions; and contributing to presentations highlighting GIS and spatial techniques.
