Additional Information: This is a half-time position with a maximum of 20 hours per week and 1043 hours per year. Travel in Wisconsin, occasionally overnight, may be required.
Job Description: This position serves as a support scientist for a Focus on Energy grant project. The scientist will work closely with others in the Science Information Services Section to estimate the recent historic and projected future hydrologic impacts of climate change under alternative land use scenarios across Wisconsin. 75% Conduct systematic investigations using modeling theory and apply scientific methods, including problem exploration/definition, planning of approach and sequence of steps, execution of experiments, results interpretation, and documentation/reporting of findings. 25% Provide scientific support for related research projects through expertise in water quality modeling, planning theory, geospatial analysis.
Knowledge Required :
Working knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) technologies, including ArcView software, and their use in hydrologic and scenario models. An understanding of modeling theory and its application to natural resources issues. An understanding of the relationship between land uses and hydrologic changes. Applicants must possess solid organizational skills and be able to prioritize tasks, set milestones, sequence activities, establish realistic time frames, and deliver products and services in a timely manner, with little supervision. Desired qualifications: Previous research experience. Superior attention to detail. Solid communication skills. Positive attitude. Ability to coordinate with other team members and to have a flexible work schedule.
