Department: Water Quality Protection Team/Water Quality ResearchBusiness Objective: MMSD is currently preparing for implementation of anenterprise GIS. This implementation will require significant internalresources and will also provide an intern with a unique learningopportunity. The intern will provide the GIS department with the supportnecessary to accomplish implementation tasks while maintaining theday-to-day level or service internalstakeholders are accustomed to.Project Description: The intern will be indirectly supporting the GISPhase II Enterprise implementation project, schedule to being in April2008. The Phase II project will create eleven workgroup specific GISapplications, create a physical data model, convert all MMSD spatialdata, execute a new systems architecture, create GIS standards,implement a Document/Records managementsystem, provide District-wide training, and update CAD standards, RFPlanguage, and workflows.Required Qualifications: Microsoft Office proficient; experience withperipheralequipment including scanners, printers, and plotters; at least 3semesters experience with ESRI desktop software; should be enrolled in adegree programin geography, GIS, natural resources or related field; must be able touse and interpret a variety of maps and engineering drawings; must beable to work independently or in a group setting, have a history ofmeeting deadlines and have excellent oral and written communication skills.Hours and Start Times: Full time; 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
