Description:
Jackson County Land Information has an open opportunity for a GIS Intern. The limited term employee will assist in creating and editing geographic information system (GIS) layers for Jackson County. The GIS Intern will work under the direction of the Jackson County Land Information Officer.
This position will be responsible for assisting office staff with a variety of GIS projects. Tasks may include:
• Updating and correcting the county Public Land Survey (PLS) grid for use in the county geodatabase
• Editing the PLS corner feature class and scanning tie sheets for the County Surveyor
• Assisting with county address clean up
• Converting a variety of data into the county geodatabase
• Mapping Jackson County hunting and fishing rights
• Identifying and researching problem areas within the county parcel mapping and tax roll
• Creating and adjusting numerous other GIS datasets
• Creating and updating metadata as needed
Qualifications:
• Candidates should be enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor or associate degree program or higher in geography, land records, geology, natural resources or related field.
• Experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.* and ArcView 3.*, and Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
• Familiarity with the Public Land Survey System
• Ability to work with technical equipment such as a plotter, large format scanner, GPS unit, and general equipment such as computers, scanners, fax, copy machines, etc
• Candidates must be able to work independently and in a timely manner. Good communication skills and dependability is essential.
