SUMMARY:
The Environmental Water Resource Intern will assist Water Resource Specialist in collecting water quality and biological data from area lakes, rivers, and wetlands throughout the summer of 2008.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collect water quality samples from area lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Collect biological samples from area lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Complete habitat surveys and descriptions of area aquatic resources. Maintain and calibrate sampling equipment. Utilize GIS/GPS software to assist in preparing area maps and reports. Enter data into the PIIC Environmental Database. Perform analytical procedures in laboratory setting

QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently enrolled in a four year, degree granting program, or graduate seeking further experience with a background in biology, chemistry, hydrology, geology, environmental studies, natural resources, or similar dicipline. Ability to work in the field under a variety of weather conditions. Previous experience working with water quality monitoring programs desired. Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills desired. Valid driver’s license and experience with motorized boats.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Will be expected to do various physical activities involved in field work on lakes, streams, and wetlands, including walking, lifting, paddling a canoe, handling field gear and equipment; must be able to swim. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
