Full time PhD graduate assistantship position is available immediately in a research project investigating the changes in temperate forests of European Russia with remote sensing. The project is funded by NASA’s Land Cover and Land Use Change (LCLUC) program and is conducted by an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison integrating remote sensing, forest landscape ecology, and agricultural economics. The ideal candidate should have a MS degree in forest ecology, natural resources management, geography, or related discipline. Previous experiencein remote sensing, GIS, and statistics is preferred. Excellent English writing skills are essential. Experience in Russian environments would be preferred but not required. Salaries and research support are competitive and include a tuition waiver and health care benefits. Salary support for three years is in hand and support for a fourth year is likely. Funding is also available for computer hardware, conference and research travel, and for lab and/or field technicians. The position is available immediately with a potential PhD start date of Fall 2009 or earlier.
