AECOM, an international consulting firm and a leader in water resources, is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist for their Milwaukee, WI office. They are looking for an individual to support and/or manage multiple GIS projects and tasks. Candidates with one or more of the backgrounds following the bulleted list are particularly favorable. The GIS Specialist will act as a support person for an array of projects within general guidelines and standards from AECOM’s diverse professions and clients, but will also be called upon to perform other duties related to his/her strengths.
Depending on the nature of the projects under contract, specific duties may include:
- Provide GIS support for water resources, infrastructure, environmental, planning, and information technology projects.
- Understand and implement precision and accuracy based on coordinates scales and project design protocols
- Spatial (e.g., GPS, field observations, aerial photographs, survey data, etc) and tabular (e.g., chemical data, sewer data, etc.) data development, acquisition, implementation, and maintenance support
- Compile, maintain, distribute, spatial data with quality control and assurance tasks utilizing spatial database design concepts (e.g., topology, domain values, subtypes, etc).
- Develop and support ArcGIS Server mapping applications.
- Develop spatial models using ESRI 2D and 3D software
- Establish quality assurance plans and controls for client specific projects
- Establish FDGC-compliant metadata and other documentation
- Participate in project specific GIS needs assessments
- Provide information to users and answer questions within formal and non-formal meetings.
- Develop marketing materials
- Assist in GIS client specific project planning and budgets
In addition to GIS experience, a background in application development (Visual Studio .NET, Javascript) or MS SQL Server is considered a significant plus. This background can include experience in one or more of the following areas: web application creation and maintenance, installation, tuning, trouble-shooting, back up and recovery of data.
Technical knowledge and experience with AutoCAD software and CAD standards are also considered a plus.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: GIS, Geography, Information Technology or a related field from an accredited university. A degree in programming, with demonstrated GIS experience is also acceptable. Two years of successful experience in GIS is preferred. Must be familiar with current versions of ESRI GIS products (ArcGIS 9.3x). Additional skills desired but not required include .NET programming and relational database systems SQL and AutoCad Map.
