The University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute is interested in hiring 2-3 students on an hourly basis for the fall semester to assist with the application of geospatial technologiesto coastal management issues on the Great Lakes. Specific projects include: (1) construction of integrated “topography/bathymetry” coastal terrain models and visualization of water level changes on the Great Lakes; (2) development of web mapping applications and training materials to support the Great Lakes Observing System (http://glos.us/); and (3) enhancement of an interactive web mapping site thatsupports coastal heritage tourism on the Great Lakes in Wisconsin(http://www.wisconsincoastalguide.org/).
Requirements:
– Courses and/or work experience in geographic information science andenvironmental studies.
– Experience with ArcGIS version 9.x, web development, and virtual globes.Experience with mapping application programming interfaces (APIs), scriptinglanguages, and/or Adobe Flash and Flex software is desirable.
– Willingness to learn about and apply Open Geospatial Consortium standards andprotocols that support interoperability of geospatial data.
– Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
– Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with professional staff.
– Self-directed, energetic, and organized work habits.
