Work will be performed for the U. S. Geological, 465 Science Drive, Madison, WI 53711. The office is on the Madison Metro bus route from Campus.
The applicant will assist to process scanned files of the Board on Geographic Names. These records begin in 1890 and are being scanned and linked through the USGS Geographic Names Information System for public access. Students will be expected to work independently. Schedule is somewhat flexible.
A knowledge of geography is strongly preferred but not required. An interest in geographic names or experience with geographic names taxonomy is a benefit. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, quality control and an ability to operate a computer are critical. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system is required. Experience working with on-line data entry interfaces is desirable. Position will continue through 2010 – 2011 school year.
