Duties:
Apply geospatial technologies to coastal management issues on the Great Lakes and providetechnical assistance to the Wisconsin Coastal Atlas project. Synthesize research in webcartography, spatial data infrastructures, digital catalogs and archives, and the semantic web.
Requirements:
• Courses and/or work experience in geographic information science, cartography,environmental studies, computer science, and/or library and information studies.
• Experience with ArcGIS version 9.x, web development, and virtual globes. Experience withmapping application programming interfaces (APIs), scripting languages, contentmanagement systems, and/or ontology tools is desirable.
• Willingness to learn about and apply Open Geospatial Consortium standards and protocolsthat support interoperability of geospatial data.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with professional staff.
• Self-directed, energetic, and organized work habits.
Salary:
50% project assistant appointments beginning in the Spring 2010 Semester. $1,370.88/monthstarting February 1, 2010. The appointments include a four-month probationary period.Successful completion of this probationary period is dependent upon job performance.Appointment beyond December 31, 2010 is dependent upon job performance and continuedproject funding.
Salaries are set by the 2006 contract between the State of Wisconsin and the TeachingAssistant’s Association (TAA). Health insurance, tuition remission, and other benefits willaccompany each position.
