GIS Specialist

Undertake challenging work on projects using GIS for data analysis and display, map creation, map and figure formatting, and quality control. Project responsibilities may include working with and interpreting aerial photos, analysis of both raster and vector data, database entries and queries, development of GIS scripts and programs, working with internet map applications, coordinating GIS work with other software applications (e.g. AutoCAD, Google Earth), and use of standard GIS extensions.

Minimum Qualifications:
• AA or AS degree in GIS, environmental science, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of and experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.x suite
• Basic mathematical and computer skills
• Ability and willingness to work independently
• Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients’ needs and project schedules
• Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness and timeliness of results
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Must be qualified to drive a Barr company vehicle
• Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A., or M.S. in GIS, geology, geography, environmental science, or related field; or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of and experience with ESRI’s ArcView 3 GIS software
• Experience with ArcGIS extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, etc.) and Model Builder
• Floodplain and/or other natural resource mapping experience
• Experience with GeoDatabases; experience with ArcServer and ArcSDE
• GIS scripting/programming skills (VB.net, VBA, HTML, Java, Python, etc.)
• Survey and topographic mapping experience; ArcPAD
• Database and Data Model design
