Job Summary:
This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants withor without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointmentto this position, however, will not convey permanent status in theFederal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 monthswith possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without furthercompetition.

Duties:
This position is located with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Eastern Region, Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center (UMESC), located in La Crosse, WI. The selectee of this position will be responsible for the following major duties:
- Models future habitat conditions, as well al areas of ecological significance, based upon species habitat needs, habitat management strategies, and historical vegetation information using a variety of GIS software and remote sensing data.
- Designs research and develops management tools that answer questions of pressing concern to natural resource management agencies.
- Designs, conducts, and collaborates on research with other scientists at the Center and elsewhere, particularly research concerning the spatial and temporal analysis of plant and animal populations and communities.
- Evaluates, designs and develops GIS-based data management systems for organizing, managing, and using biological data.
- Operates a government owned motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
