Internship for Summer 2010
General Purpose: Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager, provide engineering support to the engineering department which will include water main inspection, hydraulic field testing, SQL database maintenance, AUTOCAd, ARCGIS, recordkeeping, data quality control, and GPS mapping functions.
Responsibilities to include:
- Assist Technical Service to inspect water main and appurtenances installations.
- Assist Technical Services in engineering studies and field work.
- Prepare detailed drawing of intricately designed components or units from layout drawings. Calculate dimensions and specify standard allowances when not stated.
- Use CAD software to draft construction plans and drawings for public utility projects.
- Research records, maps, and other data to obtain typical data such as location stubs, water mains, hydrants, etc.
- Field collection of data to map water laterals, hydrants, and mains using GIS, GPS, and CAD software.
- Assist in maintenance of database and mapped records.
- Assist in collection and maintenance of field data using GIS/GPS and CAD equipment.
- Assist with data quality and data entry using the Utility’s ESRI mapping software.
Qualifications:
- Valis Wisconsin Drivers License and good driving record
- Post high school Civil Engineering training and knowledge of surveying principles
- Knowledge of geography, GIS, land records, or ESRI/mapping systems is desireable
- Self motivated
- Must be 18 or older
