The Town of Greenville will be accepting applications for a GIS Intern position for the 2010 summer season. This person will be responsible for GIS data collection using the Trimble Geo XH global positioning unit as well as development, ongoing maintenance, and data conversions as directed by the GIS Specialist.
The GIS Intern may also assist the GIS Specialist with the following (listing may not be comprehensive):
- Collection, post-processing, correction, and conversion to GIS of physical infrastructure features within the Town using Trimble Geo XH GPS.
- Creation of metadata for GIS data layers.
- Verification of paper plat maps against electronic data.
- Digitizing of building footprints from aerial orthophotographs.
- Entering record-keeping data into Access database.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled as a full time undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university, majoring in Geography or GIS, be in good academic standing, and have a minimum of two years undergraduate education in GIS, Cartography, or other related discipline.
- Candidates should have demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.x software. Also, candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Access 2007.
- Experience with the following is a plus: GPS Unit and Geodatabase experience.
- Candidates must have strong technical skills, an exceptional attention to detail and a solid understanding of the principles of GIS.
- Have the ability to problem solve in the field independently and with efficiency.
A criminal background check is required prior to an employment offer.
A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and good driving record is required.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday.
