Interested in reinventing the geographic information system (GIS), cartographic and graphic design functions of an organization committed to providing enhanced planning and development services to its public sector clients in west central Wisconsin? Want to locate in a dynamic city that is a regional center of commerce, has a state university and technical college, offers year-round recreational amenities, including two rivers and 75 miles of bike trails, and is an hour away from Wisconsin’s north woods and a major metropolitan area of 3.5 million people?

Under the direction of the Director, administer the development and maintenance of the Commission’s GIS; plan, create, compile, organize, coordinate, and maintain the activities, operations, hardware, software, and database of the GIS to provide information and work products for a variety of purposes to the Commission and its clients; design and implement geographic databases, internet mapping, and cartographic modeling; provide website and graphic design support to the organization; assist in maintenance and upgrade of computer technology; participate in functional consortiums, workgroups, and taskforces; and supervise interns.

The candidate must possess strong graphic design skills and computer graphics capabilities, and be fluent in ArcGIS. Knowledge of cartographic principles/convention is essential. Graphic visualization of landscapes and urban scenes using tools like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, World Construction Set or Visual Nature Studio, Virtual Terrain Project, and Google Sketch-Up would be a plus. Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and timelines, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced and complex environment is required.

Demonstrates advanced use and knowledge in most, if not all, of the following software programs: Sketch-up, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PowerPoint, Expression, Net Objects Fusion, Dreamweaver, AutoCad, ArcIMS, and ArcGIS.

Bachelor’s Degree in geography, planning, landscape architecture, GIS, graphic design, computer science, or related technical, cultural, or environmental field and three years professional experience; or a Master’s Degree in the same fields. AICP certification, GISP certification, Graphic Designer Certification, or a Wisconsin Landscape Architecture License is desirable. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
