The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain, and improve our natural resources and environment.
This position is located in a Wisconsin NRCS Area Office. The incumbent serves as the Area Resource Conservationist and is under the supervision of the Assistant State Conservationist-Field Operations (ASTC-FO) for the respective area. The incumbent has the primary responsibility in the area of resource conservation in the area; the incumbent assists the Assistant State Conservationist and District Conservationists within the area on items relating to the current farm bill, conservation and water quality planning, plant materials program, and other natural resources related programs and practices. Assists on inventory and other resource management needs as assigned by the ASTC-FO.

Duties:
Works with all district conservationists and soil conservationists in the development and refinement of the conservation and ecosystem based planning process. Provides formal training of NRCS and LCD employees in conservation planning and long term contracting under Federal and State programs. Provides onsite planning assistance to field offices in special areas or complex circumstances. Assists district conservationists in the development of planning techniques and worksheets that meets the needs of the current farm bill and state/county programs. Sets up and carries out a systematic program of Quality Reviews and monitoring of Farm Bill-related determinations, conservation planning and non-engineering practices. Represents the ASTC-FO in matters relating to Farm Bill activities. Knowledgeable on all provisions of WRP, CRP, EQIP, CSP, sodbuster, swampbuster, and conservation compliance. Provides plant material information to field offices and assists district conservationists to set up demonstration plots as requested and approved by the SRC. Assists the DC’s with performance evaluation of plant materials field trials. Serves on the State Plant Materials Committee. Carries out training and quality assurance reviews of agronomic, woodland, wildlife and related practices, and farm bill activities.
Performs updating and maintenance reviews of field office technical guides. Provides assistance and input in the development of the area business plan. Keeps ASTC-FO and other technical staff well informed through written and/or verbal trip reports. Keeps abreast of issues involving cost share programs, agronomy, biology, EBA, conservation planning, economics, forestry, nutrient management, soil bioengineering, water quality and other SWAPA issues. Is a Certified Conservation Planner and maintains certified status. Must serve as an incidental motor vehicle operator. Requirement includes driving a sedan, van, or pick-up truck. Supports and participates in the Civil Rights (CR) program activities.
