Description:

  • Provide GIS support for projects in Archeology, Environmental, Natural Resources, and Water Resource Engineering projects and related data creation, analysis, and cartography.
  • Perform and assist in GIS tasks associated with cartography, analysis, and modeling.
  • Produce detailed maps for a diverse set of projects using ESRI software. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge and experience with portable GPS units to locate geographic, natural resource and utility line features.
  • Ability to effectively work with and manage various spatial datasets including geodatabases, shapefiles, layer files, and raster data sets. Knowledge, skill and experience in data collection, update and portrayal, including scanning, digitizing, conversion, migration, compression image processing, plotting, editing, maintenance, metadata and distribution of geospatial data.
  • Knowledge, skill and experience in compiling and producing high quality maps.
  • Knowledge, skill and experience using various associated software products such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcInfo, Spatial Analyst, DSMapbook, Maplex, and other products and extensions.

  • Requirements/Skills:

  • Preferred: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • Experience Required: Minimum of two years working experience with computer hardware, GIS (ArcGIS preferred), ESRI ArcMap 9.x, MS Access and databases. Working knowledge of remaining software and equipment.
  • Proficiency using ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.x/10 for all phases of GIS project support including data creation, data editing/modification and analysis.
  • Knowledge of databases and editing in AutoCAD (Version 2006 or newer) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to geo-reference aerial photos and historic maps
  • Knowledge of and experience using ESRI software and data models.
  • Knowledge of coordinate systems and projections.
  • Graphic design software knowledge (Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, MS Publisher) is a plus.
  • Must have working knowledge of Office suite (Access, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure when situation requires it.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Experience in field work associated with GPS data collection of natural and/or cultural resources features a plus

  • Expectation: Work 45 to 50 hours with overnight travel possible.
