JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Engineering Tech II (Water)
Reports To: Engineering Supervisor
POSITION SUMMARY
The water department Engineer Tech II shall be responsible for technical engineering support for the water department.
This position is a union position responsible for the design, implementation and record keeping of the water department. The position will perform a variety of civil engineering tasks in relation with water and some electrical department functions. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to working with the City Engineering Department designing the water main lay out, preparing water main submittal forms to go along with water main projects for State approval, preparing easement documents, maintaining water department records for the location of the water main (updating the existing GIS system), maintaining tap records and completing EPA annual reports. Day to day duties will involve working closely with the Water Department Superintendent and the Engineer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Work will include, but not limited to the following examples:
* Working with the City Engineering Department laying out water main projects.
* Preparing water main submittal form for State approval.
* Collecting water samples for quarterly and yearly reports to met DNR requirements.
* Preparing easement documents.
* Updating the GIS maps for the water department with the as-built records of the construction projects.
* Calculating the amount of various materials for the following years construction.
* Maintaining WW&LC MSDS files.
* Annual TIER II reporting statement to be filed with Wisconsin Emergency Management, Wood County Emergency Government, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, and the Grand Rapids Fire Department.
* Relief for the Storeroom Clerk and the Electrical Engineer Technician.
* All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* Ability to operate survey equipment.
* Good organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience with Word, Excel, Access, and e-mail software.
* Possess a valid Wisconsin drivers license.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
* Knowledge of ESRI’s GIS software.
* Knowledge of surveying.
* Knowledge of the DNR’s and the PSC’s rules and regulations pertaining to water utilities.
* Knowledge of Bentley Micro Station V8i CAD software.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
The minimum requirement is an Associates degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
DNR Water Works Operator certification in groundwater and distribution or obtain one within one year of hire.
JOB CONDITIONS:
This position has a 20 mile personal residence requirement.
The usual workweek is five eight-hour days with overtime as required.
PAY RATE:
In accordance with the 2010-2012 Labor Agreement (IBEW Local 1147 – Clerical & Technicians) all newly hired employees are paid on a 3 year pay rate schedule. Based upon that schedule the current starting wage for this position is $19.17 per hour.
