The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is dedicated to the preservation, protection, effective management and maintenance of Wisconsin’s natural resources. We are currently seeking a qualified Conservation Biologist within our Endangered Resources program. This project position appointment is approved for two years with possibility of extension for another two years. This position is located in Green Bay.
Job Duties:
This position is responsible for overseeing the $805,000 Environmental Protection Agency-Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (EPA-GLRI) grant project to remove phragmites and lyme grass from 118 miles of shoreline and 3,600 acres of coastal wetlands in six counties. Ensure permits are obtained, work is scheduled, support is provided to contractors (maps, GPS coordinates etc.), contractual bids are awarded, landowner contacts are made, outreach and education materials are developed and provided and assimilate information and create final project report. Oversee the work of permanent DNR staff, limited term employees and contractors. Maintain relationships with key external partners and customers and assure performance and accomplishments are measured. Provide expert advice and guidance to others on invasive species control.

This position will be located in Green Bay, but have responsibility within six counties that crosses two geographic regions (Northeast and Southeast) of the department. Travel within this area is required, as well as periodic statewide travel for meetings.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ecosystem management principles at various scales and ecological concepts related to natural communities, non-game species, and rare species assessment, management, and protection
* Applied conservation biology principles including ecosystem management; population fitness and viability patterns and types of diversity and rarity; causes of rarity; effects of fragmentation; community processes; threats to habitat, natural communities, and critical ecosystems; monitoring techniques and analysis; and protection and management strategies
* The distribution, abundance, location, condition, and status of the natural communities, exotic invasive species, and critical ecosystems of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region * Computer skills including GIS, relational databases, and word processing
