GIS Technician

The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician. This limited term position will assist with the development and maintenance of the City’s Geographic Information System.

The successful candidate will have the experience and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of:

• Municipal utility system data development and maintenance; refinement of data to be topologically consistent
• Metadata creation
• Custom map creation
• Project specific data creation
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of the City’s Geographic Information System to advance the goals of the City’s mapping and reporting needs. This includes digital map production, maintenance, and database activities that support the relevant geographic data along with research & interpretation of source documents necessary to accurately develop geographic data.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography or related field
• Minimum six months of GIS experience
• Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS (ArcGIS 9.x and/or 10.x and extensions)
• A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and good driving record
• Ability to work independently and as part of a group
• Detail oriented
• Proficient at GIS data editing and analysis
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques for GIS and cartography
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Access
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of Autodesk’s Map3D, experience with geoprocessing and python script creation, and knowledge of Map Grade
• GPS units and post processing preferred.
