NRT is seeking a candidate to join our team within our Information Technology (IT) Group. Participate in advancing NRT’s use of GIS for environmental applications in creating maps and illustrations for environmental consulting and engineering projects.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Participate with IT and Graphics staff on the expansion and administration of our GIS system. Refine GIS access methods and support GIS interfaces to increase functionality, automate processes, and build additional analysis tools. Ensure completion of status reports, metrics, project libraries, and documentation.
- Interpret engineering drawings, plat maps, and legal descriptions for GIS database development efforts. Analyze various data sources to design maps and graphic representations. Render, analyze, and manipulate geospatial data.
- Participate on cross-functional teams for on-going process improvement, methods, productivity, and quality. Provide internal group and individual GIS and database training.
- Supplement IT hardware and software support activities using network/PC principles.
KNOWLEDGE AND WORKING EXPERIENCE
- Geographic information systems hardware, software, and applications (e.g., ESRI products, AutoCAD*Map 3D, field data collection technologies, positioning technologies).
- Database management systems (e.g., Microsoft*SQL Server* data scripting, Microsoft Office Access) and scripting languages such as Visual Basic.
- Principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projection, and scale.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate or Bachelor computer science degree (or related degree) and 1 to 7 years GIS experience (ArcGIS preferred), or a similar education and experience combination. Completion of a GIS certification program a plus.
- Understand and appropriately apply GIS and database principles and concepts.
- Perform complex spatial analyses and database queries.
- Demonstrated strong problem solving and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently, express ideas clearly and concisely (orally and written); cooperatively handle a wide variety of tasks.
- Microsoft Excel and/or Microsoft Access experience required; Advanced or Power User a plus.
- AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map 3D, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D® user a plus; not required.
- Surveying and/or environmental sampling experience a plus; not required.
- ASPRS Certification a plus (GIS/LIS Technologist or Mapping Scientist – GIS/LIS preferred); not required.
