Position
The UW Colleges Department of Geography and Geology seeks a broadly trained geographer as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at UW-Fox Valley to begin in August 2011.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in the Geography or related field by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning. Knowledge of instructional technology will strengthen application.
Responsibilities
Courses may include world regional geography, introduction to human geography, soils, introduction to GIS, and introductory physical geography. Other responsibilities include professional development (broadly defined and including research) and service, especially in shared governance. The department encourages its faculty to engage in understanding and developing new effective teaching strategies, techniques and technologies, including but not limited to accelerated and hybrid courses, online courses, distance education, service learning, learning communities, interdisciplinary courses on campus, and engaging students in the first year.
Brief Description of Institution, Campus and Area
Part of the world-renowned UW System, the University of Wisconsin Colleges is a liberal arts institution with primary emphasis on freshman/sophomore coursework. Each of the 13 campuses of the UW Colleges offers liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor”s degree. UW-Fox Valley (“Fox”), in Menasha, is the second largest of the campuses with about 1,800 students, and currently offers five bachelor’s degrees with other UW campuses. Fox is located in the heart of the Fox Cities, a thriving economic and cultural center of increasing ethnic diversity. The Fox Cities include small to medium sized communities, with an aggregate population in excess of 250,000. We are approximately ninety minutes north of Milwaukee and two hours from Madison. Nearby are Appleton (immediately adjacent), Green Bay (40 miles), and Oshkosh (22 miles). The campus is also near Wisconsin”s beautiful Door Peninsula, Lake Michigan, and the North Woods of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Salary
