The Department of Geography at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is expanding the scope of its ongoing search for a full-time (9 month), tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Geographic Information Science to include Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis and Modeling and invites new applications for this position. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active program of research and publication that complements current departmental and school research strengths (see www.geog.uiuc.edu and www.earth.uiuc.edu). Focal areas of interest include, but are not limited to cyberGIS, geovisualization, geocomputation, data mining, human-environment interaction, sustainable development, health, urban and economic development, geopolitical conflict analysis, river and watershed dynamics, transportation, and land use/land cover change. The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department’s core curriculum in GIScience. The Department is part of the School of Earth, Society and Environment (SESE, comprising the Departments of Geography, Geology and Atmospheric Sciences), providing excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The position includes multiple opportunities to engage in programs of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), a leading cyberinfrastructure center for the development and application of high performance computing, scientific visualization, and data management and analysis capabilities. A Ph.D in Geography or a closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
