Mapping Technician

Description
As a Mapping Technician, you will perform conventional mapping tasks supporting Xcel Energy’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and Outage Management System (OMS), create, edit and update gas, electric and land base facilities GIS database, OMS System and or map creation to support business users in a manual or networked computing environment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with other cross-funcitonal areas of the business including Design and Distribution Operations. Your work will directly impact the integrity of our gas distribution systems.

The successful candidate will be placed within our Mapping Technician Job Family (Associate Mapping Technician, Mapping Technician I, Mapping Technician II, Sr. Mapping Technician) commensurate with skills and experience. The description below reflects the responsibilities for the Associate Mapping Technician level. Higher levels within this job family may have additional responsibilties.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Update, interpret and correct gas, electric and land base layers facilities information electronically or manually on all maps or databases, including OMS System while referring to construction project information.
• Create and maintain to scale, large maps of gas, electric, land and network distribution systems manually, in AutoCAD or with GIS System Applications.
• Respond to OMS System information requests from users, assign POI’s as required and update OMS System database.
• Assist with map reproduction, specialized map requests, assist with establishment and maintain mapping standards of systems supporting GIS/OMS systems.
• Provide internal and external customers with copies of gas, electric, land and network facility maps, explain and provide training in gas, electric information representation on maps or GIS Systems.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be placed within the Mappling Technician Job Family commensurate with skills and experience.

Associate Mapping Technician

• High School education or GED certificate.
• Excellent PC and demonstrated MS Windows proficiency (Word, Excel , etc.)

Mapping Technician I

• High School education or GED Certificate
• Excellent PC and demonstrated MS Windows proficiency (Word, Excel , etc.)
• Completion of Vo-Tec. School electrical AC/DC or gas system fundamentals class or equivalent training.
• 3 years mapping experience and successful completion of AutoCAD or GIS application training.

Mapping Technician II

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography/GIS or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
• 5 years mapping experience and successful completion of AutoCAD or GIS application training. Sr. Mapping Technician
• Bachelor’s degree in Geography/GIS or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
• 7 years mapping experience and successful completion of AutoCAD or GIS application training.

Preferred For All Levels:
**Gas and Electric knowledge or competency is highly preferred**
