The remote sensing lab group at the UW-Madison Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE) has funding for two summer positions starting May 1, 2011 to conduct research to understand the environmental impacts of urbanization in China using satellite data.

The goal of the project is to monitor land cover change in four rapidly developing urban regions in China, and work will be completed using a combination of ENVI, ArcGIS, and command line programming tools.  Tasks will include change detection, database management, and map production.

Preference will be given to students with work experience using GIS or remote sensing, or who have completed remote sensing courses at UW-Madison.  Programming skills are a plus (any language), but are not required.

Current graduate students, undergraduates, as well as students graduating in spring 2011 are all encouraged to apply.

All work will be conducted at SAGE, and a minimum of 15 hours per week will be required during summer months.
