Duties:
This position will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of GIS data layers and databases related to the City’s infrastructure such as; water distribution, waste water collection, storm sewer system, cadastral, streets, transportation, electrical, facilities, sidewalks, trails, and parks. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be a self-motivated individual capable of working independently. Must possess the ability to learn complex technical and analytical tasks and apply those tasks to assigned duties. Must have excellent computer skills. Must possess experience using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop suite of products to perform geodatabase feature editing, spatial and attribute queries, performing basic overlay operations, working with table relationships, and data export / import operations. Must possess experience with GPS data collection and post processing techniques using professional handheld devices such as the Trimble Geo-explorer series. Must be able to interpret technical and engineering drawings as well as topographic, plat and survey maps. Specific knowledge of public utility systems and operations is a plus. Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD products is a plus.
Qualifications:
This position will require an equivalent combination of education and experience to properly and effectively fulfill the job duties as listed above. An Associate’s Degree plus a minimum of one (1) year experience, in geographic information science; geography; cartography; planning; landscape architecture; earth/physical sciences; natural sciences; civil engineering; land surveying; computer science; or a related field is required. Students who are actively enrolled in a degree program of geography, earth sciences, or engineering and can demonstrate essential skills to perform duties listed above will be considered. A valid State approved motor vehicle operator license is required, must be at least 18 years of age.
