The Geography and Anthropology Department at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire invites applications for a Professional Academic Staff position with the title of Geospatial Technology Facilitator to begin July 1, 2011. The department seeks someone to manage and support the use of geospatial software and hardware for teaching and research.
The successful candidate will oversee and manage the department’s geospatial computer lab and its GPS and total station survey systems. She/he will also provide basic training to students and faculty interested in applying geospatial technology in coursework, teaching, and research. Applicants must be proficient with ESRI ArcGIS and familiar with ERDAS IMAGINE (or ENVI) and Trimble Pathfinder Office, and must be able to teach introductory workshops on the use of geospatial software and hardware. A master’s degree in Geography or a closely related field is preferred. Applicants with bachelor’s degrees in Geography or with degrees from other fields will be considered if they meet the criteria listed above.
The department has 13 full-time faculty members and more than 170 majors and minors. It houses a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility for geospatial technology. It is a campus leader in field-based teaching and student-faculty collaborative research, and provides a wide range of courses and experiences that are central to UW-Eau Claire’s liberal education mission. It has a proud tradition of offering field experiences and opportunities for undergraduate participation at regional and national professional conferences, such as the Annual Meeting of the AAG and the ESRI User Conference.
