Job Description
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in crime and intelligence analysis. Work involves the collection, analysis, and dissemination of crime related intelligence. Crime Analyst works closely with law enforcement officers during the course of criminal investigations. Information for analysis is gathered from a variety of sources including investigations, seized documents, surveillance reports, cooperating sources, and court ordered telephone intercepts. Crime Analyst will manage complex projects involving crime mapping, continuing criminal enterprises, and the structure and analysis of criminal organizations. The scope and intended product of each project will be varied. Analyst will also be assigned tasks that are administrative in nature.
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of crime intelligence analysis and crime mapping hardware and software
- Working knowledge of MS Office software and extensive knowledge of Excel
- Ability to learn specialized intelligence analysis software and the integrated justice software packages currently being used by the County
- Ability to work independently, to handle conflict, and to deal with project demands within limited time constraints
- Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
- Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence
- Ability to read analyze, and interpret documents and technical procedures
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from law enforcement rank and file
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, and apply mathematical concepts
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive ongoing criminal investigations
- Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and uphold the ethical standards of the legal profession.
Required Experience
Completion of a Baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognized standing with course work in business or public administration, criminal justice administration, or a related field. Two years experience in law, business, public management or related area. Experience may be substituted for educational requirement.Must have no criminal convictions or pending cases.
