Duties:
Apply geospatial technologies to coastal management issues on the Great Lakes and assist with development of the Wisconsin Coastal Atlas ( http://wicoastalatlas.net/ ). Synthesize research in web cartography, spatial data infrastructures, digital geo-catalogs, distributed archives, and the semantic web.

Requirements:

  • Courses and/or work experience in geographic information science, cartography, environmental studies, computer science, and/or library and information studies.
  • Experience with GIS software, web development, and virtual globes.Experience with mapping application programming interfaces (APIs), scripting languages, content management systems, and/or ontology tools is desirable.
  • Willingness to learn about and apply Open Geospatial Consortium standards and protocols that support interoperability of geospatial data.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively with professional staff.
  •  Self-directed, energetic, and organized work habits.

Appointment:

50% time project assistant position expected to begin September 1, 2011 and extend through the spring semester. The salary is $1,440.58/month and the position includes tuition remission, health insurance, and other fringe benefits. The appointment includes a four-month probationary period. Successful completion of this probationary period is dependent upon job performance. Any appointment beyond May 2012 is dependent upon job performance and new or continued project funding.
