This is an interdisciplinary position that may be filled as a Natural Resources Specialist (401), Soil Conservationist (457), or a Cartographer (1370) depending on your qualifications for this job. Only one position will be filled.

Duties:

  • Provide support for Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems.
  • Integrate these technologies into conservation planning and application activities using the Customer Service Toolkit (CST).
  • Provide support and guidance in the use of natural resource, cadastral, and imagery data.
  • Provide GIS technical assistance and guidance to individuals and groups of landowners or operators in developing resource conservation plans.
  • Identify and evaluate GIS sources for applicability and quality to produce a specific graphic.

Basic Requirements for Biologist:

  • Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college of university leading to a  bachelor’s or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position.        *OR*
  • Combination of education and experience-Courses equivalent to a major as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for a Soil Conservationist, GS-457

  • Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college of university leading to a  bachelor’s or higher degree in soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering. The study must have included 30 semester hours in a natural resource or agricultural field, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science. Of the 12 semester hours, 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science.        *OR*
  • Combination of education and experience:  At least 30 semester hours in one or more of the disciplines as shown above, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science.

Basic Requirements for Cartographer, GS-1370:

  • Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college of university leading to a  bachelor’s or higher degree in cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).         *OR*
  • Combination of education and experience-Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
