Performs engineering work in a specific environmental functional area or areas.
1. Performs engineering work concerned with a specific environmental functional area, which may include environmental affects and quality, natural resource recycle and recovery, and/or public heath.
2. Analyzes and documents functional environmental requirements.
3. Participates in the development of environmental systems, applications, and/or procedures.
4. Performs various tests or experiments requiring the use of nonstandard procedures and complex instrumentation, and documents results.
5. Conducts engineering studies to determine the most feasible corrective measures for various environmental deficiencies.
6. Recommends appropriate action to assure compliance with federal, state, and local legislation and regulations regarding environmental control.
7. Assists in the overall planning and installation of equipment revision relating to the environment.
8. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance as required.
9. Maintains a current knowledge of relevant technologies and environmental developments through research.
10. Participates in special projects as required.
1. Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
2. May require a professional engineering certification, depending on job assignment.
2-5 years of related environmental engineering experience.
Desire one or more of the following criteria: Responsible for performance management, development of materials, documents, briefs and handouts, as well as equipment, and budgets. Ability to work with diverse issues that many not fall under established practices or guidelines. Ability to resolve complex issues by working with stakeholder organizations and to find creative solutions to land use requirements with environmental compliance and conservation goals. Experience in land rehabilitation practices. Have a working knowledge and experience with computer technology, including GIS software. Developed skills in data collection, use of geographical position systems (GPS), and database development. Written and oral communication skills. Have the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Military experience is a plus.
