The GIS Server Infrastructure Administrator position is responsible for leading the development and maintaining the direction of web-based GIS (Internet and Intranet) and GIS server technologies to support enterprise and the Department of Natural Resources business needs.  This position will: Oversee the development and administration of a GIS Web Services infrastructure;  Coordinate development of Web map application guidelines and standards;  Having primary responsibility for the implementation and administration of guidelines and standards of web mapping and GIS Server-based application hosting;  Interacting with Division of Enterprise Technology(DET) staff to research, specify and configure GIS Web Services hardware and software, including ESRI Arc Internet Map Server, and ArcGIS Server;  Negotiating and managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with DET staff to insure adequate performance of the GIS Web Services infrastructure; Develop projects with DET when significant changes are required to satisfy an SLA; Manage projects to prototype web mapping and GIS server data access interfaces, and facilitate public and staff access to agency web mapping data;  Providing consulting support to management;  Participating in the development and establishment of policies, procedures, plans, and standards related to geo-spatial information technology architectures;  and represent the agency in any related enterprise-wide initiatives or advisory groups related to GIS Web Mapping futures.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Full knowledge and capabilities supporting GIS server-based technical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of GIS data structures processes and procedures related to GIS infrastructure.
  • Ability to lead GIS infrastructure support team activities, and coordinate with internal staff to communicate information to program customers.
  • Knowledge and capabilities supporting geo-spatial data, desktop and mobile infrastructures.
  • Ability to work effectively across agencies to support the Agency’s consolidated resources.

 This position works primarily in the Madison Central Office, but may occasionally travel in support of projects, for learning and training, and for assignments by agency management.
