Position Description:
This position will focus on developing interactive maps, pages, sub-sites and geospatial applications for both external and internal web site users. Leads GIS projects and, along with other members of the Council’s GIS Work Group, helps support internal business partners and GIS users, maintains the Council’s GIS operations and data library as well as conduct geospatial processing and analysis. Work tasks are varied and provide challenging opportunities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems or closely related field and two (2) years of related work experience in application and/or Web development using .NET, ESRI software (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server).
A combination of education and experience may be considered. A MA/MS in Information Technology or Geographic Information Systems and extensive experience with ArcGIS are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current web development trends and technologies including Open GIS standards, REST, AJAX
- Experience using computer application languages .NET, Silverlight, Javascript, MVC3, Python, HTML.
- Experience using ESRI software (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server) including tools and databases such as Model Builder, Shapefiles, Geodatabases.
- Knowledge of MS SQL Server.
- Knowledge and understanding of GIS principles and software.
- Knowledge of database design, information needs, and meta data development standards.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and quantitative geographic analysis methods.
- Knowledge of relational database management systems and ArcGIS scripting languages.
- Experience using MS Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
